Last Saturday, September 25th, Covenant held a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Applebee’s on Devine Street. This is the second year that Covenant and Applebee’s have worked together to put on a great fundraiser to support the Booster club. Applebee’s generously allowed us to use their restaurant, and all the proceeds went to help fund the sports programs at Covenant. The money will be used for things like renting fields and gyms, hiring referees, and buying new equipment.
All of the workers, except the cooks, were volunteer Covenant students who participate in a sport. The servers were Jonathan Peckham, David Wright, Isabella Gantt, Bobby Bishop, and David Golden. Nick Landry and Matthew Reaser were the “bus boys” for the event, and Kate Jeffcoat and Berkely Bishop were the hostesses. In the kitchen, Will Gasaway and Johanna Booth took orders and helped arrange the plates with Coach Peckham.
The tickets for the breakfast cost $5 each, and every meal was comprised of pancakes and bacon served with a choice of either tea, water, orange juice, or coffee. Door prizes were awarded every half an hour and consisted of all sorts of goodies and Covenant paraphernalia. Everyone enjoyed the good food, great service, and time of fellowship among friends and family. The breakfast was a huge success, and while last year’s fundraiser brought in around $500, this year’s blistered that amount with an astonishing $900.
Special thanks go out to Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Peckham for organizing the whole event and making sure it was fun and successful. Also to the Covenant athletes who worked the breakfast and the Applebee’s managment for allowing us to hold the fundraiser in their restaurant. Another Applebee’s breakfast, held by the junior class, will be coming up in a few months, so don’t miss out!
